Time to reveal the main reason why I look and feel better. Shakeology is hands down the best nutritional shake on the market. It's a meal, it's a snack, it's friggin' liquid gold. I drink it everyday for breakfast or lunch. At only 140 calories, it's perfect if you want to lose weight. With 15 grams of protein, it will also keep you full. But it's more than just a low calorie, high protein drink. There's more good stuff in this drink than I can write or explain. And frankly, I'm not the expert on the ingredients, I can just attest to the results. So here's what I want you to do. I've included two short videos I want you to watch. One explains the ingredients and one is an explanation from doctors as to why they recommend it. Definitely worth your time. I then offer up the Shakeology Challenge to you. Try it once a day for a week and see for yourself how good you'll feel. It will be the best $28 you'll ever spend. Send me a Facebook message or email me at buckmanjeff@gmail.com if you are interested.

My better half
When it comes to improving your health and fitness, exercise is only half the battle. In fact, it might be only 20-30% the battle. The single most important thing when it comes to improving your health, losing weight, lowering cholesterol, etc., is the food you put in your mouth. Nutrition drives your results.
Think of it this way. Food is like the gas you put in your car. It doesn't matter how big of engine your have, if your car does not have the proper fuel or enough fuel, you ain't going nowhere. Same with nutrition and exercise. It doesn't matter how much exercise you do (the engine), if you are not eating correctly (the gas), your results go nowhere.
I've achieved my results partly because of my exercise regimen, but mostly because of my diet. And I use the term diet loosely. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. Diets do not work. Diets imply there is an end. A conscious choice of eating the right food at the right time more accurately describes what I do. To me, food serves a purpose. It provides the proper nutrients and energy that my body needs to achieve the results I want. Would a Big Mac and fries taste good? Hell yes! Will it help me to achieve my results? Say it with me - Hell no! Living a long, healthy, medication-free life is what I strive for. I use that to drive my choices.
If there is one book that you need to read this year, make it The Slight Edge. There's powerful stuff in there. A concept that is used over and over is compound interest. We all know that in the business world, compound interest is a beautiful thing. It's how money grows, and grows quickly. Essentially, take a penny today, and double that tomorrow. Then double it the next day, and the next day, for an entire month. Want to guess how much you'd have after 30 days? Almost $5.5 million. No kidding. How does that relate to your health and nutrition? Think about eating right for a day. Then again the next day, and so on. How good would you feel after 30 days? Six months? A year? Same thing.
What would happen if you didn't double the money on day six, twelve, eighteen, or twenty-four? You'd still have made good money, to the tune of $671,000. But is that $5.5 million. Nope. Just missing four days in that month cost you almost $5 million. What about your nutrition? What if you don't eat the right food one day of the month? Probably no big deal. How about one day of the week? Still okay I guess. Now, compound that. Eat wrong one day a week for a year. That's 52 meals. Do that for the next 50 years and that's 2,600 meals. And that's just eating unhealthy for just one day a week. Miss two days a week and you've just doubled it to 5,200. Imagine the results you would have if those hundreds and thousands of meals were healthy and nutritious. Your body works overtime to process and digest unhealthy substances. It eventually takes a toll on your body. What you do today may not matter at the end of the week, and you may not see the results immediately, but compound it and....well, I guess you can do it to find out if you want. Or you can decide otherwise, and make smarter choices, which lead to feeling better, looking better, and living better.
I know I promised to talk about Shakeology, But I thought I should set the tone before I introduced you to something that will rock your world. Later today, or tomorrow, I will reveal the real secret to my success. It's the single most important thing I consume each and every day. And you'll see why you should to.
Enjoy your Saturday.

A taste of what's to come....literally!
Didn't plan on blogging today, but had a cool update to share. Well, at least I think it's cool since it pertains to me. Just being honest.
I have a goal to get under 10% body fat. Why 10%? I dunno, guess it sounds cool. Plus, it means I'll be in hella good shape! My wife bought me body fat calipers for Christmas. And yes, I actually asked for those. So I took a measurement two weeks ago (not telling you what the number is for now). Then I just took another measurement tonight. Down 2.2%! Suh-weet!
So what can I attribute the loss of fat to? I've already shared Part I - Using a Beachbody workout program. For me, it's P90X and Insanity. However, I'll share Part II of my secret tomorrow. For now, I'll give you a one-word clue. Shakeology. Okay, not really a hard clue. But, I'll explain in detail what this is and why you cannot afford to not be using this. Adios for now.

I told you I'd be back. An hour until the football games kick off, so I thought I'd better get this done now. If you are reading this, thanks for taking the time to follow up. Hopefully the first message stirred things up a bit inside you and you are thirsting for more. Or, maybe you are tuning in to see how I can piss you off even more today. Whatever the reason...welcome.
Yesterday I talked about the obesity issue in America. And I know what you are thinking. This skinny redhead doesn't know anything about being obese. Well, actually you are kind of right. For some reason, God created me as an ectomorph and I can pretty much eat what I want without having to watch my weight. See, I told you that you might be pissed off again.
Now, this doesn't mean I can just eat Doritos and Ding-Dong's all day. I will have a little belly, which you can see by clicking on My Revolution above, but it's not as prominent as others' might be. And if I eat crappy, I feel crappy. To me, that is a better indicator of things to come. My parents have to deal with high blood pressure and other medications. I'm not going to be on that train if I can help it.
So let me take the time to share some things that work for me and others and hopefully will work for you.
If you haven't heard of the company Beachbody, you need to. I've been a workout fanatic for most of my life and enjoy getting up early and getting after it, just ask my wife. I had such a great time with P90X that my neighbors joined me for my second round. One guy even lost 25lbs. Now, P90X is just one of the many fitness programs they offer. I'm sure you've heard of Insanity, Hip Hop Abs, TurboFire, Slim in 6, or Turbo Jam. This company has an amazing variety of programs, depending on your level of fitness or your goal.
Why these programs work so well is simple - you just push play. That's it. Show up and do what you see. I was a gym rat in college. The problem with the gym is most people don't have a plan in place prior to walking in the front door. They might get on the treadmill for a bit, and maybe even hit the weights, but they do not have a legitimate workout regimen to get the results they want - which might take weeks or even months. The Beachbody programs have everything taken care of, from day one to day 90. Just push play.
And the beauty of the programs is that they also come with a nutrition guide to help you your meals plans for the entire length of the program. Now it's easy to put together healthy and nutritious meals. It doesn't matter how much you workout, if you are putting crap into the system, crap comes out. Even put diesel fuel into your car? Same thing.
So pick a program that you like and works for you. Costs up to $120 you say? So what. How much are you paying in gym membership dues that you don't use? Plus, now you just bought a system that works AND you can use it over and over. If you want 2011 to be your revolution year, 10 bucks a month seems like a bargain to me.
Still not sold. Alright, fair enough. Don't take my word for it. Choose a link below for more information.

It's time to end the trend.
It's Saturday, I've been off work for two days because of the snow, and I'm cooped up in my house. Time for a new post. My previous messages have described ways to help you succeed in achieving your health and fitness goals. I've also pointed out some resources that should help you begin. There's one problem though...many of you have not begun. This year is already 22 days old. Three weeks down, 49 to go. I'm sure some of you have actually thought about working out or eating better. I know one guy that actually put together a Total Gym, then put it away because it was taking up too much room.
If you know me well enough you know that I'm not one to beat around the bush or sugar coat anything. Some of you will hear this message and think I'm nuts. Some of you will like the message, but do nothing. And a select few of you will become ignited and begin your revolution. If 99 people read this and get pissed-off and offended, but 1 decides to start his or her journey to a healthier and happier lifestyle, it was worth it.
It's time for a "Come to Jesus" chat. No more pulling punches; no more gentle nudging and prodding. There's a big issue on our hands that will not be going away anytime soon. It's time to end the trend right now. Bear with me, as my juices are flowing. This could be a bumpy ride.
Let's talk about your weight. Yeah, I know, touchy subject, but so what. Are you happy with your current situation? Unless you are an overpaid actor or athlete who can actually afford a personal trainer, your own chef/nutritionist, and you have more than 2 hours a day to devote to working out, my guess is that there might be some room for improvement - myself included. And if you are an overpaid actor or athlete, and you are reading my blog, I have two questions for you...1) Sweet, who are you by the way? and 2) Can I get some free tickets?
Now that we've established that we can all improve in this area, let's talk about some startling statistics, which will blow your mind. Experts suggest that 75 percent of Americans will be overweight by the year 2015, and 41 percent of that group will be obese. Twenty-five percent of those looking to enlist the military are denied because they are too obese to pass the fitness test. The Census Bureau recently released statistics on the average life expectancy of Americans. For the first time in decades that number has declined. We now see children who are obese at a rate of 20 to 30%, a figure that was close to zero only a few decades ago. In fact, they are projected to be the first generation not to outlive their parents. The painful truth is that Americans are getting fatter and fatter, and we are to blame. It costs the U.S. $450 billion a year. In addition to medical costs, businesses deal with the costs of employees missing work, lower productivity, and short-term disability. Those who are obese pay for it with more than just their health. They spend more money on food, plus-size clothing, out-of-pocket health care costs and weight-loss solutions that don't work.
Last night my 3 year-old wanted to go to Pizza Street, the place with every pizza concoction known to man. I'm not a big fan of this place, mostly because it's a heart-attack buffet for the price of $3.99. So of course, we take him. And I partake in the yummy goodness as well. But as I look to my right, I see a family with two boys, maybe around the ages of 10-12, and the kids each have a plate with nine, yes, nine pieces of pizza stacked up. My wife and I look at each other like "Holy Crap!" These ain't no small kids neither. My guess is that this was just their first round. At that moment I had a little "Come to Jesus" talk with myself. If I can not and will not practice what I preach, this trend of obesity will never end. It starts with me. And hopefully ends with you. So if you are ever with me, and see me eating something like this or worse, swat it out of my hand, slap me in the noggin' and berate me like that drill sergeant in the Geico commercial and call me a "Jackwagon."
Here's the deal. Weight loss isn't easy. Don't believe some of those things you see and hear. There is no magic pill or drop you can take, there are no supplements that burn fat, and those Ab machines you see on t.v. are nothing more than a place to hang some clothes on. If losing weight were easy, everyone would be lean and slender. Losing weight comes down to math. Did you consume more calories than you burned today? If yes, you put of weight. If no, you lost weight. So whatever you are doing at this moment with your nutrition and exercise, if it ain't working then stop doing it!
I've ranted on enough for today. And I'm upset with myself for eating that crap last night. Please don't feel as if I'm on my soapbox telling you what to do as I do the opposite. Tomorrow will be the second piece to this discussion. We'll talk about a specific idea and system to help all of us end this trend of obesity. No more generalization and no more hoping that today will be different than yesterday. Thanks for reading.
Fit Club Challenge
Alright...we are two weeks into the new year. Do you want to be more healthy and fit, but just haven't quite started yet? Are you having trouble getting motivated to do so? Where do you even start? Let's make things simple, fun and easy.
I'm proposing a challenge to you. All you need is three or more people who have the same goal as you - to get healthy and fit. Here's how it works...
- Find two or more to join you (spouse, neighbor, boyfriend, girlfriend, son, daughter, etc. Anyone but your dog basically!).
- Give your team a name.
- Register your team name and members with me.
- Choose and purchase a Beachbody program for your workout.
- Measure your team members in regards to weight and percent body fat (I can help with this).
- Commit to the program for 90 days.
- At the end of 90 days take the final measurements of the team.
- The team with the largest average combined percentage of weight loss and fat loss will be the winners.
So, besides winning a new look and feel to your body, what else do you win? The winning team will receive a FREE workout program of their choice and a FREE 90-day supply of Shakeology.
So get your neighbors, church members, family and friends together for a little healthy competition. The contest begins February 1st, 2011. Must have a minimum of three teams registered and competing in order to declare a winner.

What do YOU have to lose?
What kind of morph are you?
Before you decide to work out and before you set a meal plan, you first need to know what kind of person you are. I'm not talking about the kind that is nice, creative or funny, but what kind of body type you have. There are three main types: ectomorph, endomorph, and mesomorph. Huh? Let me explain.
Ectomorph: lean, lightly muscled, takes longer to gain muscle, small shouldered, thin. If you are in this group you probably have long limbs and tend to get cold easily. Famous ectomorphs include Kate Moss, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Paris Hilton...and me!
Mesomorph: large bones, well defined muscles, square jaw, thick fingers. Famous mesomorphs include Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Halle Berry, Jennifer Garner, and Mark Wahlberg.
Endomorph: soft and round body, short limbs, large head, thick upper arms and legs. Famous endomorphs include John Goodman, Danny DeVito, Jack Black, Oprah, and Kate Winslet.
It's possible to be a combination of two categories, but one usually has some dominant features that lean towards the majority of one. The key is knowing which group you are in to determine which workout and nutrition plan you should be on and what food(s) you should or should not be eating. Each body responds differently to training and nutrition. Let me know if you need help deciding which category you fall in and which training/meal plan is best for your type.

Succeeding in YOUR revolution
The previous post mentioned that the vast majority of us will never realize our resolutions. Those statistics were from last year. We are about to change that - right now. Here are some things you can do to achieve your goal and begin your revolution:
1. Tell someone your goal. You are more likely to achieve it if others know about it AND can help you attain it. Think of it as an instant support group.
2. Be specific. Instead of saying that you want to lose weight, have more energy, or lower cholesterol, give concrete numbers or examples to strive for. Example: I want to lose 30 pounds, go down 3 dress sizes, be under 200 for cholesterol, or be able to run 3 miles without stopping. This way you can break those goals down into weekly mini goals, where you will see progress.
3. Schedule your week in advance. Before the week even begins, plan it out. If you try to wing it and attempt some sort of exercise, it will not happen, or it will not happen to the best of your ability. If you set your schedule 7 days out, you know what's coming up and you know what is expected each day from you in regards to your meals and your workout regimen.
4. Use a calendar. If you don't see it, you won't be it! Whether you go old school and use the big desktop calendar or uses an online calendar, just do it. My suggestion: use the WOWY (Work out with you) gym that comes with your FREE Team Beachbody membership. AND YOU CAN WIN DAILY PRIZES FOR JUST LOGGING IN AND WORKING OUT! Did I mention that it is free to sign up?
5. Have fun and do what works for you. Each of us are internally motivated differently. Find a work regimen that you enjoy and you can stick with. And feel free to mix it up. Change leads to progress and progress leads to achieving your goal.
Do these five things and I guarantee that your revolution will happen. Get started right now!

Resolution Success Rates
Came across some stats that were very intriguing. This is why having a plan or solution in place is much more effective.
Let's not be in the 88% this year. There are some great tools to help you achieve your goals. Stay tuned for those later today. YOUR revolution is about to begin!
88% of those who set New Year resolutions fail to achieve them. Men achieved their goal 22% more often when they set measurable goals, such as losing three pounds a week instead of saying "lose weight." Women achieve their goals at a 10% greater rate when they shared their goals with friends and family, which immediately creates a support system.

Don't make a resolution, make a revolution!

I decided to start this blog at the beginning of the new year for many reasons, but mainly because that's when everyone begins to think about their own health and fitness. It's funny how a bunch of numbers or turning a calendar has that affect on us, but whatever it takes!
